Punahoa sits Oceanfront on Kīhei’s Kamaʻole Coast

Punahoa is one of South Kīhei’s smallest oceanfront buildings: 15 units in a single four-story building on Iliili Road, set back from South Kīhei Road on a quiet side street where the building sits directly on the water’s edge.

There is no road between you and the ocean here. The oceanfront lawn runs right to the shoreline, and a small rocky cove below the property draws green sea turtles that feed along the reef shelf year-round.

During humpback whale season (December through April), the channel activity is visible directly from the lanais without binoculars on a good day.

Laundry is on-site coin-operated on the ground floor (not in-unit). There is no pool and no elevator; the building is a four-floor walk-up.

What you get instead is a rooftop garden lanai, BBQ grills, complimentary beach gear (chairs, towels, umbrella, cooler), free Wi-Fi, and assigned off-street parking at no charge.

While Punahoa is situated right on the water, beach sizes in Maui are prone to seasonal shifts and tide changes.

For broader South Maui planning, Charley Young Beach is a 2 to 3 minute walk north; Kamaʻole Beach Park I is about 5 minutes on foot. The Cove (a reliable surf and SUP spot) is 2 minutes in the other direction.

Wailea resort beaches are 10 to 15 minutes south; Mākena (Big Beach) is 20 to 25 minutes further. Kihei Caffe on South Kīhei Road opens at 5 a.m. and draws a reliable line for breakfast; Cafe O’Lei in Rainbow Mall serves island-style seafood with an ocean-view setting.
